Tony Perrett Fencing began in 1996. Tony was dairy farming in mid-Dorset with his wife Averil, after enjoying fencing his own farm, other fencing jobs followed from local farmers and neighbours who could see that Tony was naturally talented at fitting fences that kept livestock in and were built TOUGH to last.
As more and more jobs came in, it was clear a decision had to be made, come the year 2000 it was give up the cows or give up the fencing! We are pleased to say Tony and Averil followed what they enjoyed most and took the leap to go full time fencing.
We grew steadily during the 2000s increasing the range of fencing we could offer, expanding our residential fencing service and starting to supply industrial fencing too. With an increasing range of work undertaken, investments in equipment, training and staff were done to allow us to work to our build TOUGH standard, which is Tony's principle when carrying out any job he does. We started working for respected authorities and companies including Dorset County Council, Betterment Properties, National Trust, NHS and Kingston Maurward College.
Tony's son Tim joined the family business in 2012. Tim brought with him 6 years experience gained as a Senior Producer Advisor with the Soil Association in Bristol, a degree in Agricultural Marketing from Harper Adams University and personal experience from fencing on many farms throughout his teenage years to mid twenties, thus in 2013 we became Perrett Fencing Ltd to bring Tim into the business with Tony and Averil. Earlier this year we brought in Sam Baker to the director's table after 10 years of unrivalled service.
The following years have seen us purchase a range of class leading machinery and we now run a pair of Protech Evo Compact's fondly known as 'Timmy's Mallet' and 'Sam's Sledge' for agricultural work.
Meet the Team
With the team we have together we have the perfect blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm to achieve jobs completed to the highest possible level. We run two main teams throughout the year, one being led by Tim and one by Sam. Tony runs our garden fencing side allowing Thomas and Tom the opportunity to mix things up! We are all customer experience based, and we will make sure that you are happy with the job we do step by step.
Lead Fencer - Managing Director
Following in Dad's footsteps Tim has slowly and surely taken over the everyday running of the fencing business. Transitioning us to more mobile, lighter compact tracked post knockers and modern equipment for our teams to use. Tim utilised his extensive farming and land management knowledge, practical common sense know how to offer our customers the correct specification of fencing designed to offer true value for money.
Founder - Director - Inventor
Tony started Perrett Fencing in 1996 after selling his dairy herd, fencing mainly in mid Dorset. We still fence for many of our first customer and many of them have become friends.
"In the last year I have taken a step back from the fencing, though still do the occasional garden fence, quote visit, as well as keeping the teams supplied with the materials. When not out and about I can be found in the workshop designing upgrades for The Perrett Post Plate and keeping our machines in top work order"
Lead Fencer - Director
Sam has been with us 10 years and has recently been rewarded for his long service with partnership within the company. He is an excellent fencer with an eye for detail and a brilliant attitude to work. Out of the work field and onto the rugby field he plays at Taunton along with Thomas where we are both of their player sponsors.
Office Manager - Director
Averil has always worked in the background for us alongside working for a local charity, preparing Tony's quotes and organising our stands at agricultural shows. Averil started as Office Manager in January 2021 and works three days a week. No two days or two jobs are the same, so there is always something different and exciting happening!
Thomas has been with us since March 2020 where he was previously in car sales, he combines his love of fencing with his studying for his Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography. So he clearly loves to be outside! In his spare time he plays rugby with Sam at Taunton Titans RFC.
Char works remotely two days a week as our office administrator. She has found that Perrett Fencing has given her the perfect work life balance as a wife and mother of two and still allows her to focus on her career.
"Nothing is ever too much trouble at Perrett Fencing and the team and I are always prepared to go the extra mile to help"
Tom joins us on the back of a successful apprenticeship in the building environment. He is now developing his fencing skills alongside enjoying a more practical role. Outside of the job he enjoys playing rugby for NDRFC and following YTFC.
We are always looking for good people to join us fencing - it's a great career for people who enjoy making things in the great outdoors.
As a fencer we look for people who are physically strong and able to work in all weathers outside, have great hand eye coordination and a good sense of humor - we can teach you the rest!
